Guthrie case investigators question neighbors about any internet issues on the night she disappeared

Authorities Probe Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance by Inquiring About Neighbors’ Internet Outages on the Night She Vanished

Following Nancy Guthrie’s mysterious disappearance, law enforcement agencies are gathering information by asking residents of her Tucson neighborhood about potential internet disruptions on the night she went missing. Both the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI conducted door-to-door interviews in the Catalina Foothills on Thursday, focusing on connectivity issues and any unusual observations. Multiple homeowners reported that investigators specifically requested details about their internet service during that timeframe.

Neighbors Report Unusual Connectivity Clues

Residents shared with NBC News that agents emphasized reports of internet glitches in the area. Two homeowners noted the team also inquired about video footage from Jan. 11, though authorities have not confirmed this as part of their active investigation. Three other neighbors, who were either asleep or away on the night of the abduction, could not confirm if their connections experienced problems.

A Couple Noted a Ring Camera Glitch

One couple living near Guthrie’s home reported a peculiar issue with their Ring camera system. They mentioned that the camera closest to her residence displayed a “not available” message when accessed during the overnight hours of the abduction. The other cameras, positioned farther away, functioned normally. The couple described the occurrence as “uncanny,” having never encountered the error before. “That’s really weird, isn’t it?” they remarked in a blockquote.

FBI’s Evidence Points to a Suspect

Earlier this week, when asked about the possibility of a Wi-Fi jammer on the suspect, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated: “I’ve not looked at that closely, but yeah, I know that my team has examined it with the FBI from every angle.” The FBI previously released footage of an armed, masked man with gloves visible outside Guthrie’s home on Jan. 31. The individual, described as between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall with an average build, wore a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack.

Family Updates and Rewards

Savannah Guthrie, who has taken a leave from the “TODAY” show, visited New York City on Thursday to address media. She confirmed her intention to return to her role, though she remains prioritizing her family’s support and efforts to locate Nancy. The Guthrie family announced a $1 million reward for information leading to her recovery, joining offers from the FBI and Crime Stoppers. NBC News has contacted Ring for comment on the reported camera malfunction, but no official explanation has been shared yet.

Key Details of the Case

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 31 after dinner with her daughter Annie. She was reported missing on Feb. 1 when she failed to appear at a friend’s house for a livestreamed church service. While authorities suggest the case may involve a kidnapping or abduction, specific details remain scarce. The search continues without a confirmed suspect or person of interest identified publicly.
