Jim Carrey’s ex reveals what we missed about his ‘unrecognisable’ face
Jim Carrey’s Ex-Girlfriend Offers Insight Into His ‘Unrecognisable’ Appearance at César Awards
Jenny McCarthy, 53, Jim Carrey’s former partner, has shared her thoughts on the buzz surrounding his appearance at the César Awards in February. Despite appearing drastically different from his usual self, she confirmed it was indeed the actor himself who attended the ceremony.
Carrey, 64, received an honorary accolade for his work in film and television. During his speech, he delivered the entire address in French, showcasing his dedication to the event. However, his altered look sparked intense debate, with fans and conspiracy theorists questioning whether he had been substituted by a clone or someone in a mask.
“He looked very happy at that award show. And I was happy for him,” McCarthy told *People Magazine*. “That’s the first thing I noticed. I said, ‘Oh wow, Jim looks really happy.’”
Her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, added his own perspective, emphasizing the emotional aspect of the moment. “You know, that’s the part that, sadly, people miss,” he said. “We’re so focused on his appearance that we didn’t consider how genuinely joyful he seemed.”
The confusion deepened when a makeup artist, renowned for their elaborate transformations, shared a post online claiming to have impersonated Carrey. Drag queen and performance artist Alexis Stone posted a photo of a mask, a makeup kit, a brunette wig mimicking Carrey’s longer hair, and a set of false teeth, captioning it: “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.”
“We’re so obsessed with how he looks that we didn’t consider how happy he looked,” Wahlberg said, reflecting on the moment.
Meanwhile, social media users flooded the internet with theories, suggesting Carrey had undergone cosmetic procedures or that his height and eye color had changed. Some even questioned his posture and voice, with accounts like @pnwguerrilla and @AriesHornz declaring he might have been “replaced.”
Amid the speculation, the César Awards’ general delegate, Gregory Caulier, addressed the rumors. Speaking to *Variety*, he stated the controversy was a “non-issue,” highlighting the meticulous preparation Carrey had invested in his speech. “His visit has been planned since this summer,” Caulier explained. “From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words.”
Carrey, who had hinted at retiring from acting in 2022, stated he would only return to Hollywood if an “angel brought him a script written in gold ink.” Yet, by the end of 2024, he made a surprise comeback, starring in *Sonic the Hedgehog 3* as Dr. Robotnik for the third time. At the premiere, he remarked to *AP*: “I bought a lot of stuff and I need…”
