Amber wind warning issued as Storm Dave set to hit parts of the UK
The Met Office has activated an amber wind alert for Saturday evening, signaling that Storm Dave is poised to deliver “disruptive and potentially damaging winds” across specific regions of the UK. This warning applies to northern England, north-west Wales, and southern Scotland, with the advisory set to commence at 19:00 BST and last until 03:00 on Sunday.
Authorities warn that flying debris could lead to injuries or life-threatening situations, alongside risks of travel delays and possible power outages. Earlier in the day, a series of yellow wind and snow alerts will be in effect from Saturday afternoon, as the nation prepares for a turbulent Easter weekend.
Gusts reaching 60-70 mph are anticipated in several areas, with coastal and open locations likely to experience stronger winds up to 80 mph. Residents are encouraged to minimize outdoor activity and secure loose objects before the warnings take full effect.
“We recommend heightened vigilance on elevated, exposed routes and extra caution when passing large vehicles, as the buffeting effect can unexpectedly impact drivers,” said RAC spokesperson Rod Dennis.
