Watch: School Principal Disarms Active Shooter in Oklahoma
CCTV recordings capture a dramatic confrontation at Pauls Valley High School on April 7th, where Principal Kirk Moore intervened against an active shooter. Victor Hawkins, a former student suspected of the attack, entered the school and began firing. Moore charges toward Hawkins, disarms him, and a staff member later removes the weapon from his hand. Though Moore sustained a leg injury during the struggle, he has since been released from the hospital. Hawkins was arrested on-site and faces charges including two counts of pointing a firearm, one of attempted homicide, and two of unlawful carrying.
Artemis II Crew Sets New Lunar Distance Record
The Artemis II astronauts, aboard the Orion spacecraft, broke the previous record for the farthest distance from Earth, surpassing the Apollo 13 crew’s 1970 achievement of 248,655 miles (400,171 km). As of now, they are still traveling beyond that mark. Christina Koch, one of the crew members, shared her thoughts via video link:
“It is so great to hear from Earth again.”
The mission, which marks the first crewed Moon flight in half a century, is part of NASA’s plan to land humans on the lunar surface by 2028. Meanwhile, the crew’s commander, Reid Wiseman, lost his wife to cancer in 2020 at age 46.
Other Highlights from the Week
During his first official bilateral visit, the Canadian prime minister joined the Finnish president at the Ottawa Charge team on the ice rink. Separately, a homeowner in Tampa discovered a nine-foot alligator in his pool area, which was later removed by specialists. In another event, over 15,000 marshmallows were dropped from a helicopter during the annual “Great Marshmallow Drop” as children raced to collect them. The mission also included a rare view of the Moon launch for passengers on a commercial flight, with the BBC’s Science Editor Rebecca Morelle watching from just three miles away as the most powerful rocket ever built launched from Florida. Despite delays and technical hiccups, the spacecraft is now in Earth’s orbit, completing the third day of its journey around the Moon’s far side.
