Bill Gates set to testify before US Congress in Epstein investigation

Bill Gates to Appear Before Congress in Epstein Inquiry

Testimony Scheduled for June 10

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, will appear before U.S. Congress in June to address his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender, according to lawmakers. This follows the House Oversight Committee’s request for his testimony as part of an ongoing probe into Epstein’s alleged misconduct. Gates has not faced formal accusations from any of the financier’s victims, though his involvement in the case is detailed in newly disclosed records.

Documents Unveil Connections to Epstein

Over three million documents released earlier this year by the Department of Justice include information about Gates’ communications with Epstein. These materials were made public after a legislative mandate signed by former President Donald Trump in November, which required the release of all evidence from Epstein’s investigations. Despite this transparency, many documents remain confidential.

Clarifications and Public Statements

During a meeting with his foundation’s staff, Gates discussed his ties to Epstein and “accepted accountability for his actions,” as stated by the Gates Foundation. A spokesperson later emphasized that Gates had never attended social events with Epstein and was not involved in any illegal activities linked to the financier. “He acknowledges meeting Epstein as a significant misstep but firmly rejects any wrongdoing,” the statement clarified.

Previous Comments on Epstein Ties

Earlier this year, Gates shared his perspective on his interactions with Epstein during an Australian interview, stating that their meetings were limited to dinners and he did not visit the financier’s island. “I regret every moment spent with him and apologize for that,” he said. The Wall Street Journal noted Gates’ admission of two affairs with Russian women, which Epstein became aware of, but he asserted, “I did nothing illicit. I saw nothing illicit.”

High-Profile Witnesses in Investigation

The House Oversight Committee’s call for Gates’ testimony aligns with other notable appearances in the inquiry. Former President Bill Clinton and his spouse, Hillary Clinton, testified in February, while Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and former Attorney General Pam Bondi are anticipated to provide statements in the upcoming weeks.
