Britney Spears goes into rehab after driving under the influence arrest
Britney Spears Enters Rehabilitation Following DUI Arrest
Britney Spears has begun a rehabilitation program, one month after her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Her representative disclosed the decision to multiple US news outlets on Sunday, stating that the singer voluntarily initiated treatment at a facility. This marks a step toward addressing her recent challenges, as she prepares for a court appearance in California three weeks from now.
The incident occurred on 4 March when Spears was cited for driving her BMW “erratically at a high rate of speed” on a motorway, according to the California Highway Patrol. She exhibited signs of being impaired and underwent a series of field sobriety tests after being stopped by law enforcement. Her representative later emphasized that this could be a turning point, noting that Spears is committed to following legal procedures and taking corrective actions.
“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in her life,” the representative said. “She will receive the help and support she needs during this difficult time. Her sons will be spending time with her, and her loved ones will develop an overdue plan to ensure her well-being.”
Spears, a global pop icon, is known for hits such as “Baby One More Time,” “Toxic,” “Everytime,” “Gimme More,” “Womanizer,” and “Stronger.” For 13 years, from 2008 to 2021, she was under a legal conservatorship that managed her finances and personal affairs. Her father, Jamie Spears, justified the arrangement, claiming it was necessary due to her life being “in shambles” and her experiencing physical, emotional, mental, and financial distress.
According to her representative, the conservatorship helped Spears achieve stability across all aspects of her life. They described it as a “successful mission” and now see her entering rehab as an opportunity to reclaim control over her future.
