Four Teens Arrested in Connection with Fatal Stabbing

A 16-year-old boy died after being stabbed in an incident that occurred near the Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough. Cambridgeshire Police received a call shortly before 19:00 BST on Sunday regarding the attack, which took place in Riseholme. The school adjacent to the location, St John’s Church School, temporarily closed due to the “serious incident” reported nearby.

Arrests and Charges

Four individuals, all under 18, have been detained by authorities. Among them, a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man from Peterborough face murder charges. Two additional teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were arrested for allegedly aiding the perpetrator. The 16-year-old girl, also from March, is charged with possessing a weapon.

“Police are currently processing a site close to the school,” stated an email shared with the BBC, prompting the institution to shut down temporarily.

On Sunday night, a photograph captured a significant police deployment near the shopping centre. By Monday morning, a restricted zone was still in effect near the Riseholme entrance. The area around Ortongate remains under a police cordon, with heightened patrols anticipated for several days.

Police Statement

“This is a tragic event that led to the loss of a young man’s life. We are in regular communication with his family and providing updates as the investigation progresses. While the death will be distressing for the community, we believe the attack was deliberate. A strong police presence will continue in the vicinity over the next few days,” said Det Ch Insp Richard Stott from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit.

Residents and passersby are being asked to share any information or footage from home CCTV cameras. The shopping centre remains open, though its rear car park is currently closed. St John’s Church School plans to keep parents informed about potential reopening dates as the situation evolves.

Additional flowers have been placed near the cordon, reflecting community support and remembrance for the victim. The school emphasized it would monitor developments closely and issue further updates.
